The small building along the roadside is the early County Clerk's office where Patrick Henry and other local lawyers conducted business. The office was on the property of Sheriff Thomas Johnson of Roundabout Castle. Henry defended Johnson and the citizens of Louisa County in the famous Parson's or Two Penny Cause which pitted the citizens against the King and the Church of England.
This site is along the road between Louisa Court House and Henry's home Roundabout, on Roundabout Creek just west of Quail. Local lore tells that he road on horseback with his rifle at hand so as to shoot wildlife to help feed his family. Four of his seventeen children were born while he lived in Louisa County.
